SECAP: About Climate Action Plan
What Is a Climate Action Plan?
A Climate Action Plan (CAP) is a city planning document that identifies ways in which the community and city can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Looking at four key sectors - energy, waste, transportation, and land use - the CAP will incorporate best practices with public input to produce a blueprint for achieving GHG emissions reduction in Elk Grove and ultimately, to comply with AB 32 and SB 375.
Goals for Climate Action in Elk Grove
Achieving long-term sustainability by reducing GHGs is the overarching goal for the City’s Climate Action Plan. Secondly, the CAP will provide the community with long-term projections based on two different scenarios: (1) projected GHGs without addressing sustainability issues; and (2) projected GHGs based on specific GHG reduction measures. The reduction measures, which will be part of the final CAP document, will be chosen through a collaborative process between the Elk Grove community and City staff.
Improving Our Carbon Footprint
The CAP will be implemented through a variety of programs and public involvement. Elk Grove residents, businesses, and government will all collectively play a role in achieving the goals of the CAP and, in turn, a sustainable future. The CAP process will highlight the most effective ways to reduce GHGs specifically for Elk Grove.
The City will be actively seeking public input for guidance and support to continue to foster a livable, vibrant, and sustainable community.
