Sustainability Element and Climate Action Plan (SECAP)

TreesThe City has developed a Sustainability Element to the City’s General Plan and a Climate Action Plan.  The Sustainability Element aims to incorporate new social, environmental, and economic goals and ideas into the General Plan that focus on the concept of sustainability.  More about the Sustainability Element.

The Climate Action Plan is a city planning document that identifies ways in which the community and city can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Looking at four key sectors - energy, waste, transportation, and land use - the CAP will incorporate best practices with public input to produce a blueprint for achieving GHG emissions reduction in Elk Grove and ultimately, to comply with AB 32 and SB 375. Where We Are In The Process

The draft Sustainability Element and Climate Action Plan were presented to the Planning Commission and City Council for initial review and comment at several meetings in May and June 2011.  Based upon those comments, staff is finalizing the documents.

In parallel with this process, staff is also conducting a full environmental review and analysis of the proposed documents as required under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).  A Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) is expected to be released for public comment in fall 2011.  Check back for more information in the near future.
