| Representatives from the City of Elk Grove’s Public Works Department conducted a community workshop at the Old Town Mercantile Building to provide information to the public about the upcoming Old Town Improvement Project. Representatives from the City presented an overview of the project elements, construction schedule, and anticipated construction staging and phasing plans, and answered questions related to the larger Revitalization Project and SPA update.
Forty-four (44) citizens attended the workshop. Representatives from the City addressed questions regarding potential impacts to area businesses, the availability of public parking during construction activities, street closures, garbage cans in the Old Town area, and the safety of children traveling to and from school. ParkingRepresentatives from the City explained that the first step of the construction project will include the construction of a public parking area with adequate signage behind the Toronto Hotel, located southwest of the intersection of Elk Grove Boulevard and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Parking will remain a top priority issue for the Old Town area. In the future, the City will be looking at alternative parking options and may commission a parking study to determine possible solutions. Street Lighting, Sidewalks, CrosswalksThe project will include all new sidewalks and landscaped areas, attractive streetlights, several crosswalks, and benches in various locations along Elk Grove Boulevard between Walnut Avenue and School Street. Trash CansTrash cans and recycle bins are included in this project and will be placed side-by-side in various locations along Elk Grove Boulevard between Walnut Avenue and School Street. Approximately nine (9) trash cans and nine (9) recycling cans are included as part of the project.
