Street to close for night work Bee Regional Staff Workers hoping to shave up to a month off the time needed to renovate Elk Grove Boulevard in Old Town will close the street at night, starting at 9 tonight and continuing for the next nine evenings. The closure, in effect until 6 a.m. daily between Walnut Avenue and School Street, will enable workers to demolish the roadway to make way for a new road base before laying a final pavement. Commuters are being encouraged to use Bond and Grant Line roads as detours. The improvements are part of the city's $4.7 million effort that began this spring to build curbs, gutters and sidewalks and add landscaping in the Old Town project area. The city is trying to complete the bulk of the project by Thanksgiving to avoid the rainy season and to enable local merchants to take advantage of the holiday season. Motorists with questions or concerns may call Old Town's toll-free project hotline, (877) 577-0629.
